Practical Conservation
Nature-Force

The midweek team carries out a wide variety
of practical tasks to maintain and enhance the Trust's nature
reserves throughout Warwickshire, Coventry and Solihull. Tasks vary
throughout the year, ranging from meadow and ride cutting and pond
clearance in the summer to fencing, coppicing, path work and scrub
clearance in the winter.

The groups meet every Tuesday, Wednesday
and Thursday at 9.00am at Brandon Marsh Nature Centre, transport to
the different nature reserves is provided from there. The groups
return to the visitor centre at around 4.00pm. There is no minimum
commitment required, just simply turn up, enjoy yourself and come
back if you would like to do more.
No prior experience needed, as full training is provided.
Don't forget to bring along waterproofs, boots and a packed lunch,
and we will provide hot drinks, biscuits, training and tools.
Weekend Work Parties
Weekend Work Party Volunteers help local
Volunteer Wardens to maintain and enhance the positive features of
our nature reserves. Work parties take place on a variety of
reserves throughout the year and tasks vary, ranging from meadow
and ride cutting and pond clearance in the summer to fencing,
coppicing, path work and scrub clearance in the winter. The number
of weekend workparties increases during the winter with the
majority of our nature reserves hosting weekend workparties during
this period. The number of workparties are greatly reduced during
the summer to make way for nesting birds and flowering plants.

Weekend work parties run on either a Saturday or Sunday depending
on the site. They usually start at around 10.00am and finish mid
afternoon. There is no minimum commitment required, just simply
turn up, enjoy yourself and come back if you would like to do
more.
No prior experience needed, as full training is provided.
You should bring suitable footwear and waterproof clothing, all
tools and safety equipment will be provided.
Reserves Wardens
Volunteer wardens act as the 'eyes and
ears' of Warwickshire Wildlife Trust on the ground by visiting
their nature reserve regularly and reporting back any interesting
sightings, vandalism or other significant behaviour.
At the most basic level wardens are required to visit their
designated nature reserve on a regular basis. If you would like to
get more involved you can be given training on how to lead guided
walks and run weekend volunteer work parties to help manage the
nature reserve. These can be as regular as you have time for with
some wardens running work parties once a month and others just
having three or four a year.
A knowledge of your local nature reserve is beneficial, although
not essential. Previous habitat management experience is not
required as training can be provided.
