Monitoring & Surveying

Warwickshire Wildlife Trust carries out regular surveys, firstly of particular species to make sure our management work is benefiting them, and to monitor climate change and secondly of habitats and land use as part of the Habitat Biodiversity Audit.

amphibian-survey

We need volunteers to help us survey everything from butterflies and birds, to bats, otters to flowers and much more. The surveys can be carried out at one nature reserve or at several depending on how much time you have to spare. The survey season is usually March - September depending on species. It is beneficial if you are available throughout the survey season of your chosen species so that we can obtain complete records. However, times and days for surveys are flexible and can fit in around when you have the time.

All levels of experience are required as full training in identification is provided if you need it. Dates for Identification workshops, run by the Trust, are fixed and cannot be changed. All materials for the survey such as forms and ID charts are provided.

Otter Task Force

Join Peter Sanders and our Otter task force on their monthly surveys to monitor the presence of otters around the county.

Water Vole survey

Help the Trust monitor Warwickshire water voles by learning to survey for water voles. The Trust runs annual water vole survey workshops every April for interested volunteers. These workshops are aimed at the non professional who is interested in helping us survey for water voles for local projects in Warwickshire. Learn more about the ecology and behaviour of water voles.

The workshop will involve an outdoor session to teach surveyors how to find and recognise field signs of water voles, rats and field voles. Cost is £3 per person which will contribute towards monitoring equipment.
