Walk the Ring - Two men and a dog

One hundred and thirty miles, four tired
feet and four tired paws later, Wes Finch, Matt Hernandez and Nanu
the dog have finished walking the length of the
Warwickshire canal ring in one week.
You can follow the walk here in
Wes' log entries.
A huge thank you to everyone who sponsored Wes, Matt and Nanu,
who have now raised over £700 for the Trust. For inspiration, visit
their fundraising page at http://www.justgiving.com/walkthering.
Wes grew up in Coventry and developed a
love of the countryside from an early age. "I used to love rambling
and playing in the woods and spotting the many different creatures,
big and small that can be found with a little bit of patience and
persistence. My parents bought me a mini library of the
animals, birds, insects and water life of Great Britain when I was
very young which to this day I love to browse through and even
still use to identify something I may have spotted on a
walk. It may not have some of the most dramatic scenery in
Great Britain but Warwickshire is a beautiful county of gentle
hills, woodlands and waterways, meadows, grasslands and hedgerows
all rich in wildlife and wonder. It's something I've always enjoyed
experiencing first hand, and on foot."
Wes studied Ecology and Environmental
Science at The University of East Anglia. "I have also come to have
an appreciation of the workings of the ecosystem that includes all
the different species of plants and animals around us and to
understand the effects that habitat reduction and our impact on the
local environment has on this delicately balanced and
interconnected system," he continued. "Warwickshire Wildlife Trust
does great work in not only maintaining the different habitats we
have in the county but also in helping people to experience and
enjoy them. It's only through our experience and enjoyment that we
can come to appreciate the wealth of wildlife on our doorstep, and
to understand how we can manage and protect it in the best
way."
Wes met Matt playing music around the
Leamington and Warwick area. Wes and Matt hope to combine
their love of walking and enjoying the countryside in a simple and
environmentally friendly way with their love of playing music and
meeting people. They hope to raise money for Warwickshire Wildlife
Trust as well as raising awareness of the Trust and encouraging
people to enjoy the local countryside in a similarly low impact
way.
