Newlands Reedbed
Could you help to create the largest
mosaic of reedbed habitat in the West Midlands and secure a future
for vulnerable species including water vole, otter and
bittern?

I am sure many of you will have visited
Brandon Marsh SSSI, a jewel in the crown of our reserves. You may
even be one of the privileged few to have experienced a magical
moment at this tranquil haven for wildlife; the flash of a
kingfisher, a fleeting glimpse of the secretive bittern or an
unforgettable encounter with the elusive otter.
Thanks to our members, in 2003 we were able
to carry out vital reedbed enhancement work at Brandon Marsh SSSI.
Our Phase II Reedbed Expansion of Newlands Reedbed was a resounding
success, creating a rich wetland habitat that has since attracted
and supported many locally and nationally threatened species,
including otter and bittern.
We now hope to undertake
further enhancement work of this precious habitat by launching
Phase III of our reedbed expansion plan.
But - we cannot achieve this without your
help.
With the threat of increasing global
temperatures many of our coastal wetlands and the countless species
reliant on this important habitat are under threat. Here in the
land locked Midlands, it may seem that there is little we can do to
help these threatened habitats and species, but all is not
lost.
By undertaking crucial expansion work of
the Newlands Reedbed we can create an island stronghold for
wildlife reliant on wetland for food, shelter and breeding;
securing a long term future for several species currently facing
the very real threat of extinction. Our vision is to create the
most extensive mosaic of wetland habitat in the West Midlands,
forming an area large enough to support water vole, otter, bittern
and marsh harrier.
Could you
help make Brandon Marsh SSSI a regionally significant site for
wetland species and ensure a future for our wildlife threatened by
climate change?
We have secured some funding for this
project but we must find a further
£30,000 through independent third party funding to release the full
£150,000 needed to complete the expansion work. 'Friends
of the Warwickshire Wildlife Trust' is such an independent body,
pledged to support the work of the Trust. We are asking our members
to make a donation today to 'Friends of the Warwickshire Wildlife
Trust' to help us raise this outstanding £30,000 through
independent third parties.

us to raise the £30,000 by making a donation to 'Friends of the
