CLAYBROOKES MARSH SSSI, Coventry. Adjacent
to the A46 Coventry Eastern Bypass on the eastern edge of the city.
Entrance off Grange Avenue at SP 380769. 4.1ha (10.1 acres). Leased
from Coventry City Council and designated as a Site of Special
Scientific Interest. Open access. This nature reserve, once known as
Herald Way Marsh, is one of the most important areas for rare
invertebrates in the county. Originally it would have been grassland
and a natural marsh, but for much of the twentieth century it formed
the railhead for Binley Colliery. As a result a wide range of habitats
have developed from the relicts of the original marsh to bare ground
and dry grassland. Parking off Grange Avenue. Contact: Trust Office.
