ALVECOTE POOLS SSSI.  3km east of Tamworth. Entrance at SK251043. 26.2 ha (64.7 acres) known as Pooley Fields. Leased from Warwickshire County Council.  Open access. Part of a series of shallow pools along the River Anker formed by mining subsidence. Important for birds, dragonflies, sphagnum moss, bladderwort and orchids. Park at Alvecote Priory picnic site (SK251042) and enter through gate between railway and canal. Contact: Adam Archer 01827 897509
