ALVECOTE MEADOWS SSSI. 3km east of
Tamworth, near Alvecote village. Access from Robey’s lane and
Alvecote lane (SK 244048). Owned by the Trust since 1997 and
designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest. Open access, no
dogs permitted. These meadows contribute 11.5 hectares to the largest
SSSI in Warwickshire, Alvecote Pools, which in total covers 128
hectares. Supports a variety of wetland habitats including wet
grassland, marsh, reed swamp with water mint and greater pond sedge
and open water, attracting a wide range of dragonflies, damselflies
and birds such as snipe, pied wagtail, goldfinch and kestrel. Contact:
