East Street Pocket Park
East Street Pocket Park was developed with help from the New Opportunities Fund, Living Spaces and Barclays Site Savers Funding. Four recycling bins and a mosaic were created by community arts organisation Arts Exchange and local school children.
Three cherry trees were planted in 2005 and a summer fun day, organised by Warwickshire Wildlife Trust, with a barbeque, face-painting, circus performers, henna art, stalls, music and games for all the family was held in the park later on in the year.
Warwickshire Wildlife Trust have successfully secured funding from Liveability to further improve the park with decorative entrance features designed by a local artist.
A training session on creating a wildflower meadow was carried out by one of the staff from the Trust's conservation team at the park in April 2007. The area will be maintained by the Hillfields Gardening Club. We are currently looking for more funding to sow more wildflower seeds in autumn to boost the concentration of flowers.
Steve, the chair of Singer Residents Association said:
From an area of grass that was used for little more than a short cut between two roads, we now have a community asset where local folk can sit down and relax and watch over their children playing on the grass.
