Green Light
These reserves are considered well worth the travelling time to visit, even if you don't live locally. 'Green' sites tend to have several of the following attributes: good access, parking, waymarked wildlife walks, hides, scenic landscape, large size, sufficient interest to warrant a longer visit.

 

Amber Light
Worth a visit for a shorter period of time. The sites may have several of the attributes found at 'green' sites but may be smaller in size and hold less interest.

 

Red Light
Worth a visit if you live locally. These sites tend to be small and lack most of the attributes of 'green' and 'amber' sites. They are nevertheless important for
conservation.

POOLEY FIELDS. Between Polesworth and Tamworth in North Warwickshire. Access off Robey's Lane. Entrance at SK 244048. 26.2 ha (64.7 acres). Postcode B78 1AS

 

Leased from Warwickshire County Council.  Open access. 
Together with neighbouring Alvecote Meadows reserve, Pooley Fields forms the largest SSSI in Warwickshire, Alvecote Pools, which in total covers 128 hectares.

 

Part of a series of shallow pools along the River Anker formed by mining subsidence. Important for birds, dragonflies, sphagnum moss, bladderwort and orchids.

 

Park at Alvecote Priory picnic site (SK 251042) and enter through gate between railway and canal.
