Water Vole Surveying

Water voles are in serious decline in Warwickshire and in the UK as a whole. In order to prevent this species from becoming extinct within Warwickshire, it is essential that we survey as many watercourses as possible so that firstly, we know where they are, and secondly, we can then take appropriate action to protect them.

Surveying takes place during the spring and summer each year, with opportunities for members of the public to take part. Although we can provide training on the day, some experience prior to the day on how to survey for water voles would be useful (see below).

If you think you might have seen a water vole (or their field signs) please get in touch by emailing records@wkwt.org.uk or use the recording form available on the Surveys and Monitoring webpage.

Please contact Tim Haselden, Wetlands Living Landscape Officer on 024 7630 8995 or email tim.haselden@wkwt.org.uk if you are interested in getting involved.
