National Grid has combined its
gold corporate membership with a huge range of staff projects on
nature reserves across Warwickshire.
During 2009 alone, employees joined in ten
corporate team building activities, from helping to clear scrub at
Claybrookes Marsh SSSI through to coppicing at Leam Valley.
The most popular project, however, was the
enhancement of the path network throughout Clowes Wood SSSI
Nature Reserve on the outskirts of Solihull. National Grid
supplied financial support to help supply the stone for the path,
and then staff spent days on the ground creating a new path using a
traditional Roman method of construction.
The work has improved access to the wood
along previously difficult and muddy paths; it has opened up the
woodland floor to allow bluebells and other flora to grow again;
and the use of recycled materials and natural stone means the path
is environmentally friendly.
