As large birds and passenger jet aircraft cannot safely co-exist, there are just two options for Coventry Airport:

1. Close Coventry Airport for Passenger Jets or
2. Kill all the large birds within the CAA recommended limits

Option 1 is easy to achieve: it is the position that existed up to 1 April 2004.  There is an existing International Airport at Elmdon - half way between Coventry and Birmingham - that takes just 10 minutes to get to by train from Coventry.  It has cheap flights as well as scheduled services to the world.  The only people to lose out from Option 1 are the owners and operators of Coventry Airport, the German-owned multi-national company TUI

Option 2 is very difficult to achieve, as it would mean killing a large number of large birds - which is likely to cause significant public outrage.  It would also contravene the Wildlife and Countryside Act, as many of the places that the birds live are designated as SSSIs (Sites of Special Scientific Interest).  They include Brandon Marsh Nature Reserve SSSI, Coombe Abbey Country Park SSSI, Ryton Pools Country Park - all within 2 miles of the airport.

Is there a safe third option? No.

What can you do?
