DEVELOPMENT PLAN 2005-2009

Since its foundation in 1970, Warwickshire Wildlife Trust has grown every year in membership numbers, in action and in influence. In recent years it has planned its future development with a series of five-year plans, highlighting where it wants to go and what its priorities are. This document builds on previous plans and achievements, setting out our aims until the end of 2009. Over the five-year period from 2005 to 2009 we expect that the pressures on wildlife and the natural environment will continue, with both development and agricultural changes being key issues locally, and climate change having impacts too. At the same time the Government’s Sustainable Development agenda, coupled with the UK Biodiversity Action Plan, should mean that both the environment and biodiversity gain in profile at a national level. Our challenge will be to translate these issues into actions locally, building on the clear public support for nature, wildlife and the environment.

Our strategies & priorities

In order to achieve our Vision & Mission, given the context of our work and the issues facing us, we will inevitably have to prioritise and target our efforts. We simply cannot protect all of Warwickshire’s wildlife on our own, and will work in partnership with many organisations and individuals to achieve our goals.

We will carry out our work in three broad activity areas: Wildlife Havens, Wildlife Champions, and People and Wildlife, with a fourth area, Managing our Business, to ensure we maximise our efficiency and effectiveness. These headings link directly with our nationally agreed Wildlife Trust priorities for the UK as well as with priorities for the West Midlands Region.

  • Wildlife Havens includes all our ‘on the ground’ work to identify, protect and enhance areas of land for wildlife.
  • Wildlife Champions brings together our work to influence others, including campaigns, working with planners, farmers and other partners, and lobbying for wildlife protection.
  • People and Wildlife includes all our education activities and community-based work, alongside Visitor Centres, membership services, events and activities for everyone.
  • Managing our Business encompasses all our management systems, including quality, Health & Safety and financial management as well as our external promotions, publicity and marketing activities.
