GRASSHOPPERS & CRICKETS

GRASSHOPPER AND CRICKET ONE DAY IDENTIFICATION WORKSHOP

Starting at 10.15am on Saturday 14 July 2007 at the Parkridge Centre, Brueton Park , Solihull

Warwickshire Wildlife Trust would like to invite you to join Gary Farmer and Peter Reeve for this fascinating workshop.  It focuses on the ecology and identification of our native grasshoppers and crickets, centred at Brueton Park , Solihull .

The sound of crickets zithering in the grass is a really summery, almost Mediterranean, sound but would you like to know more about these intriguing athletic insects?

The workshop will involve both indoor and outdoor work, so make sure you bring along outdoor gear.  Bring a picnic or, if you prefer, you can buy food at the Parkridge Centre.

Cost: FREE but places are limited, so booking is essential in order to avoid disappointment

To reserve your place please contact Gary Farmer on 0121 704 8472.

Peter Reeve, event leader, says, “Grasshoppers and crickets are vastly underrated insects and some of our native species are being recognised as ‘climate change indicators’.  We hope that, as a result of attending this workshop, the participants will develop and improve their identification skills so that they can help us to survey the local grasshopper and cricket populations and, therefore, be better able to assess how healthy they are and identify the factors affecting them.”

Warwickshire Wildlife Trust is the leading local charity for wildlife and the environment.  The Trust currently cares for over 55 nature reserves throughout Warwickshire, Coventry and Solihull , and has a wide range of conservation activities taking place throughout the year.  For further details or to get a copy of our leaflet “Wild Events and Activities” please contact the Trust on 024 7630 8999, drop into the Trust’s Visitor Centres at Brandon Marsh Nature Centre and Parkridge Centre in Brueton Park , Solihull , pick up a leaflet in your local library or visit our website on www.warwickshire-wildlife-trust.org.uk
