WORKSHOPS and WORKPARTIES

DRAGONFLIES FOR BEGINNERS [ADULTS ONLY]

DRAGONFLY IDENTIFICATION AND MONITORING

SATURDAY 16 JUNE 2007 at 10.00 am

Join Warwickshire Wildlife Trust and Peter Reeve of Warwickshire Dragonfly Group for this fascinating workshop focusing on the ecology and identification of dragonflies, centred at Brandon Marsh Nature Reserve, which will involve both classroom and outdoor practical sessions.

Dragonflies and damselflies look very similar to the inexperienced eye, but if you would like to reliably tell the difference between the two types of insect, as well as learning about their fascinating lives, then this workshop is for you.

Meet in The Barn at Brandon Marsh Nature Reserve, Brandon Lane , Coventry – entrance GR:   SP 386761

Cost:    FREE    but places are limited, so booking is essential in order to avoid disappointment

Bernie Higgins , Reserves Biodiversity Officer for Warwickshire Wildlife Trust, says, “The long-term use of pesticides, coupled with the fragmentation of habitats, has led to the reduction of dragonfly numbers in the countryside. The purpose of workshops like these is to help the participants to develop and improve their identification skills so that they can help us to survey the local dragonfly populations and, therefore, be better able to assess how healthy they are and identify the factors affecting them.”
