With the sudden emergence of warm May sunshine the butterflies have emerged and there are fluttering dabs of colour everywhere.

A small white butterfly flies past and your eyes follow – because you want to see if it has orange tips to its wings. If it has, it is an Orange-tip, a male, and because you know the name, you see the butterfly as an individual creature.

Once you have learnt a few names, you will discover that your enjoyment of a walk or of being in your own garden will increase immensely.

Bernie Higgins , Reserves Biodiversity Officer for Warwickshire Wildlife Trust says, “Does your knowledge of butterflies stop at Cabbage White, and do you wish you knew more about the butterflies flitting around at this time of year? This workshop is a first-class opportunity for you learn more about our native butterflies and how to identify these colourful visitors to our gardens and parks. Our enthusiasm for well-manicured and weed-free gardens has been devastating for our butterflies, who like a habitat which we see as just plain weed-infested. So why not come along and find out more about these fascinating creatures and, just as important, how you can do your bit to help them”.
