Warwickshire Wildlife Trust Press Release!

01 April 2008………………………For Immediate Release

COME WALK THROUGH THE HISTORY OF HILLFIELDS!

The brand new entrance features are going to be launched at East Street Pocket Park!

The event is taking place on Saturday 5th April from 12pm until 1.30pm at East Street Pocket Park (opposite Southfields Primary School ), Hillfields, Coventry . There will be an exhibition on display and a free BBQ available! Everyone is welcome.

The park was created by Warwickshire Wildlife Trust and the local community, from a piece of disused and neglected land which belongs to Coventry City Council and we have now secured a 10-year lease for the site.

Warwickshire Wildlife Trust were successful in obtaining the Liveability funding from Coventry City Council to commission local artist, David Dewis, to design and build the entrance features. The Trust and David have also been working with Singer Residents Association, Sky Blue Residents Association and children at Southfields Primary School to come up with the ideas for the features. David said: “It has been a privilege to design and produce the work, in a location, where I played as a child and recall many happy memories”.

The entrance features reflect the history of Hillfields with Penny Farthings and Singer Sewing Machines forming part of the design. Izumi Segawa , Community Development Officer for Warwickshire Wildlife Trust said:” I have been overseeing the production of the features since they were still cardboard models. Despite all the difficulties we had, the features look stunning, thanks to David. I hope the features will be something that local people can look at and feel proud”.

Warwickshire Wildlife Trust has been working with the local community in Hillfields for over 10 years but the current funding from ERDF is now coming to an end. This launch event is also to celebrate the achievements in the area by Warwickshire Wildlife Trust and the local community.
